Inaccessible Director Challenge

The book blogging world just loves their challenges. They do a lot of them. My sister, a book blogger, just completed a summation of all the challenges she attempted in the year 2009. Check out her post here.  There are challenges about the number of books read, the type of book, the type of author, the number of pages.  It’s a handy idea to make sure you’re keeping a variety choices.

The film blogging world doesn’t really seem to be in to challenges (unless I’m just not aware of it).  Besides a few bloggers I know who created lists of movies they’ve never seen, the idea came from Movie Moxie (here’s mine, here’s Heather’s of Movie Mobsters, and here’s Shannon’s from Movie Moxie).  I’m not sure if this will catch on, but that doesn’t really matter, as this challenge really is about me, and my film watching habits.

I’ve created the Inaccessible Director Challenge.  The terms are subject to change, but for now, they are as follows:

  • Three months to complete the challenge (ending March 31, 2010).
  • Six movies must be watched.
  • Each movie will be by a director I find more inaccessible than most.
  • The movies must be split up among at least two directors.

While I retain the right to change this list at any time, these are the films I’ve chosen:

  • Stalker – Andrei Tarkovsky
  • Mirror – Andrei Tarkovsky
  • Ivan’s Childhood – Andrei Tarkovksy
  • Red – Krzysztof Kieslowski
  • Blue – Krzysztof Kieslwoski
  • The Decalogue – Krzysztof Kieslowski

Feel free to play along if you’d like.
